Products in Pod Kits
Pod kits are rechargeable devices where the coil lives inside a replaceable pod rather than being fitted separately. 82 of them from 15 brands, £3.49 to £32.99.
Refillable and prefilled
Two arrangements share the name, and the difference is what you buy afterwards.
- Refillable — an empty pod you fill from a bottle. Cheaper to run and any compatible liquid works.
- Prefilled — a sealed pod that arrives filled. Less to think about, and you are limited to the flavours that brand makes.
Pods are not interchangeable between brands, and rarely between ranges from the same brand. Check the pod matches your device before ordering — it is the most common returns reason in this category.
When to change the pod
Flavour fading is the signal, not a date. A pod that has started to taste flat or faintly burnt will not recover. With regular use, one to two weeks is typical; heavier use, sweeter liquids and higher power all shorten it.
Getting a full life out of each one
Prime a new pod: fill it, then wait five minutes before the first puff so the wick is fully saturated. Avoid chain-vaping a fresh pod. Keep the device upright when stored, and do not overtighten anything — pods seat by friction, not force.
Which liquid
Almost all pod kits are built for 10ml 50/50 or nic salt liquid. VG-heavy shortfills are too thick to wick through a pod coil and will burn it. If the device documentation gives a ratio, follow it.
The 2025 requirements
Devices sold in the UK must be rechargeable with replaceable pods or coils, and pods are capped at 2ml. Every kit here meets both.
Reading the coil
Where a pod's resistance is printed on it, that number tells you more about the device than the marketing does. Above 1.0 ohm gives a tight, cigarette-like draw with modest vapour and suits higher-strength 10ml liquid. Between 0.6 and 1.0 ohm is looser with more vapour. Below 0.6 ohm is sub-ohm territory, needs VG-heavy liquid and much lower nicotine, and is uncommon in pod systems.
Refillable running costs
A refillable pod used with 10ml bottles works out considerably cheaper per millilitre than buying prefilled pods, because you are paying for liquid rather than liquid plus a new coil each time. The trade is that you refill it yourself and have to match the liquid to the coil. Prefilled removes both jobs and both choices.
Charging and care
Most kits here use USB-C. Charge before the battery is fully flat, keep the device upright in a pocket or bag so liquid does not seep into the airway, and wipe the contacts if it starts misfiring. Do not leave a device charging unattended overnight.
Troubleshooting
- Burnt taste — an unprimed or finished coil. Prime new pods.
- Gurgling — overfilled, or drawn too hard.
- Weak vapour — low battery, a tired coil, or contacts needing a wipe.
Choosing in three questions
- How do you want to draw on it? A tight, cigarette-like draw means MTL and a coil above 1.0 ohm. An airy, high-vapour draw means sub-ohm. Everything else follows from this.
- Prefilled or refillable pods? Prefilled is fewer decisions and costs more per millilitre. Refillable is cheaper to run and opens the whole liquid range.
- What will the replacements cost? The device is bought once; pods or coils recur every one to two weeks. That is the real monthly cost, and it is worth checking before choosing rather than after.
The terms you will meet, in plain English
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| mg/ml | Nicotine concentration — milligrams of nicotine in each millilitre of liquid. Capped at 20mg/ml in the UK. |
| Ohm (Ω) | Coil resistance. Higher means a tighter draw and less vapour; lower means an airier draw and more. |
| Sub-ohm | A coil below 1.0 ohm. Produces a lot of vapour, needs thick VG-heavy liquid and low nicotine. |
| MTL | Mouth to lung. Draw into the mouth, then inhale. Tight, and the more familiar of the two styles. |
| DTL | Direct to lung. Draw straight in. Airy, high vapour, sub-ohm hardware. |
| VG / PG | Vegetable glycerine and propylene glycol. VG is thicker and makes vapour; PG is thinner and carries flavour. |
| Freebase | Conventional nicotine. Harsher than salt nicotine at high strengths, which is why 50/50 tends to be bought lower down the range. |
| Nic salt | A smoother form of nicotine, which is why 20mg is common in salts and uncommon in freebase. |
| Shortfill | A larger nicotine-free bottle, part-filled so a nicotine shot can be added. |
| Priming | Filling a new pod and waiting five minutes before the first puff so the wick saturates. |
| Wicking | How liquid reaches the coil. Too thick for the wick and the coil runs dry and burns. |
The five mistakes that cost people money
- Not priming a new pod. One dry first puff can ruin a coil permanently. Fill it, wait five minutes.
- Thick liquid in a small coil. A VG-heavy shortfill in a pod built for 50/50 will not wick, and burns within a few puffs.
- Buying pods on brand alone. Ranges within one brand rarely interchange. Match the range name off the device, not from memory.
- Chasing strength instead of hardware. If a setup feels too weak, the device is more often the cause than the number on the bottle.
- Filling a pod to the very top. With no air gap, pressure changes push liquid out through the airway. Fill to just below the line.

Frequently Asked Questions
No, and often not between ranges from the same brand. A pod has to match the slot, the contact positions and the resistance the device expects, so one that physically fits may still not work. Match the device name and the range name together.
A prefilled pod arrives sealed and filled, so there is nothing to carry or fill, but you are limited to that brand's flavours and it costs more per millilitre. A refillable pod arrives empty and works with any compatible liquid.
The wick was not saturated before the first puff. Fill the pod, then leave it five minutes before using it. A coil burnt this way does not recover.
2ml. That is the UK legal maximum for any pod or tank, prefilled or refillable, so it is not a point of difference between devices.
Usually one of three things: a liquid thinner than the coil was built for, a pod not seated firmly enough, or one filled right to the top with no air gap left.
